Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific is making a historic return to its roots at Kai Tak, as the airline partners with Hong Kong’s new Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) to support global sports, cultural, and entertainment events. The partnership, announced on February 24, 2025, solidifies Cathay Pacific’s role as the exclusive Founding Travel Partner of KTSP, reinforcing its commitment to Hong Kong’s tourism and cultural development.

Reviving Kai Tak’s Aviation Legacy

Once home to Hong Kong’s iconic Kai Tak International Airport, the KTSP complex is set to become the city’s largest integrated sports and entertainment venue.

The site holds deep historical significance for Cathay Pacific, which operated its entire administration, maintenance, and flight operations from the airport before its closure in July 1998.

To honor this legacy, Cathay Pacific will introduce the first aviation-themed immersive experience in the Greater Bay Area. This includes:
✔ Cathay-Branded West Bridge – Connecting Sung Wong Toi MTR Station with Kai Tak Stadium, engaging the community with the airline’s rich history.
✔ “World Flyer” Attraction – A scaled-down representation of Kai Tak Airport, designed as a learning and interactive space for aviation enthusiasts and the public.

This initiative aligns with Hong Kong’s Tourism Strategy, which promotes heritage and cultural tourism as key drivers of economic growth.

Cathay Pacific’s Role in Promoting Global Events

As part of its long-term commitment to sports and cultural tourism, Cathay Pacific will sponsor and co-host major events at KTSP. One of the first major events will be the Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, taking place at KTSP for the first time from March 28-30, 2025.

With Hong Kong’s economy recovering, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the government’s “Hello Hong Kong” campaign continue to position the city as a global events hub. Cathay Pacific’s involvement further enhances Hong Kong’s reputation as an international destination for mega-events and world-class entertainment.

Government & Industry Support for Hong Kong’s Growth

KTSP is a government-backed infrastructure project aimed at boosting tourism, sports, and cultural engagement in Hong Kong. The project is part of Hong Kong’s broader economic revitalization strategy, supported by:
🔹 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government – Investing in tourism and cultural attractions to enhance global appeal.
🔹 InvestHK – Promoting Hong Kong as a hub for business and global partnerships.
🔹 Airport Authority Hong Kong – Strengthening travel connectivity to support major international events.

A New Era for Cathay Pacific & Hong Kong Tourism

“Kai Tak was once where Hong Kong met the world, and we are thrilled to bring that symbolism to life once again,” said KTSP CEO John Sharkey. Cathay Pacific’s strategic collaboration with KTSP signals a new era of tourism and global engagement, reinforcing the airline’s vision of transforming from a carrier into a premium travel lifestyle brand.

With this historic homecoming, Cathay Pacific is set to play a leading role in Hong Kong’s cultural and economic resurgence, bringing the world to Kai Tak once again.
