The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) is gearing up to host a virtual forum in celebration of World Tourism Day 2024 on Friday, September 27, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET/AT. Themed “Resilience and Renewal: Building a Peaceful Future,” the event aligns with the United Nations Tourism theme of “Tourism and Peace.”

The forum will bring together industry leaders, academic experts, and both regional and international partners to discuss how tourism can contribute to peace building, crisis recovery, and sustainable development in the Caribbean.

Featured speakers include:

Timothy Marshall, Chairman of the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT)

Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary-General & CEO of CTO

Ian Gooding-Edghill, Barbados’ Minister of Tourism and International Transport

Sanovnik Destang, President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA)

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of UN Tourism (pre-recorded message)

John Byles (Chukka Caribbean Adventures) will discuss crisis communication and management.

Faylene King (Director of Tourism, St. Vincent and the Grenadines) and Adrian Thomas (Grenada’s Minister for Tourism) will present case studies on the impact of Hurricane Beryl.

Aljoscha Wothke (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Tobago) will address gender equity through regenerative tourism.

Lori Ann Pollard (Good Deeds Day, Caribbean) will talk about voluntourism and community resilience.
