The MV Northumberland, previously known as the MV Fanafjord, arrived in Canada today to begin its new role serving the Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island, to Caribou, Nova Scotia route.

Acquired by the Government of Canada as a temporary replacement for the retired MV Holiday Island, the vessel will now undergo final refit work to ensure it is fully prepared for service. Its addition will enable a safe and reliable two-vessel ferry operation between Wood Islands and Caribou, strengthening connections across the region.

Ferry services play a vital role in Atlantic Canada, supporting families, businesses, and communities by ensuring efficient transportation of goods and fostering regional connectivity.

The MV Northumberland is on track to begin operations at the start of the 2025 ferry season, promising enhanced service for residents and businesses alike.
