Birmingham has won the bid to host the 85th Annual Meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) in November 2025, marking a significant milestone for the city’s scientific and business tourism landscape.
The event will bring together 1,200 international palaeontologists, researchers, and scholars to the ICC Birmingham from November 12-15, 2025, making it only the second UK city and third European destination to host the prestigious global gathering.
According to the UK Government’s official tourism and business website, the conference is expected to generate over £1.5 million for the West Midlands economy, further solidifying Birmingham’s reputation as a hub for STEM research and international business events.

The University of Birmingham, which will act as the local host, will organize a diverse programme featuring symposiums, technical sessions, exhibitions, film screenings, and discussions on vertebrate evolution, fossil conservation, and palaeontology advancements.
