Belfast, Ireland is set for a transformation as a luxury one hundred and twenty-bed hotel nears approval, bringing high-end hospitality and new investment.
Belfast, Ireland is on the brink of welcoming a new five-star hotel as Derry-based Martin Property Group (MPG) anticipates full planning approval for its ambitious 102-room project in the city center.
Belfast City Council’s planning committee is scheduled to review and potentially approve the proposal for The Bedford Hotel, a high-end boutique development set to feature three stylish bars and restaurants.
MPG acquired the historic Scottish Mutual Building for £5.5 million in December 2022, swiftly unveiling plans to transform the landmark into a premium hospitality destination adjacent to Belfast City Hall.
Previously, Liverpool developer Lawrence Kenwright sought to repurpose the building into a 63-room hotel named in honor of George Best. However, following the collapse of his Signature Living firm, administrators from Kroll facilitated the property’s sale.
In a strategic expansion, MPG has also secured a neighboring six-story office building, integrating it into the hotel’s design. The addition of ‘The Warehouse’ on James Street South has resulted in an even larger development footprint for The Bedford Hotel.
Belfast City Council is also expected to assess a listed building consent request for the project on Tuesday.
Signature Living had previously clashed with the council over its modifications to the protected structure, sparking concerns from the Department for Communities’ Historic Environment Division (HED).
If approved, The Bedford Hotel will mark a significant step in Belfast’s evolving luxury hospitality scene, blending historical charm with contemporary elegance.
