The Bali provincial government has set an ambitious goal of attracting 6.5 million international visitors to the island this year, according to Tjok Bagus Pemayun, the Head of Bali’s Tourism Office, speaking in Denpasar on Tuesday.
For domestic tourism, the target has been set at 10.5 million visitors. Pemayun noted that this goal is achievable, as Bali welcomed approximately 6.3 million international tourists in 2024.
When factoring in foreign tourists traveling from other parts of Indonesia and entering Bali through Gilimanuk Port or domestic flights, the total number of international visitors to Bali in 2024 is estimated to have reached seven million.
The key challenge for 2025 lies in addressing issues impacting foreign tourist arrivals, including traffic congestion, waste management, and land use changes.
To tackle these concerns, the provincial government plans to strengthen law enforcement efforts and take on the roles of regulator and facilitator. Collaboration with tourism stakeholders will also be crucial to implementing effective solutions on the ground.
The Bali Tourism Office has introduced its 2025 Calendar of Events to draw international visitors, showcasing a total of 54 events. Among these, 45 are cultural highlights, such as the ogoh-ogoh (giant effigy) parade in March and the Bali International Air Show scheduled for September.
