The Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan (CEA) is exploring a new initiative aimed at boosting the tourism potential of East Zangezur.
This announcement came during a session of the tourism and services working commission under the Confederation.
The meeting highlighted the new statute of the commission and recent achievements in sector training. One notable accomplishment was the establishment of the Academy of Gastrotourism in Sumgait, offering 12 specialized programs.
Commission members reviewed the tourism sector’s status for 2025 and discussed future expectations. It was observed that, compared to the previous year, fewer tourists visited the country during the Novruz holiday in March.
The commission also shared the findings of a survey assessing the current state of the tourism sector. The survey identified key challenges, including a lack of skilled professionals, the investment environment, tax regulations, the opening of tourism facilities for investment, access to financing, and public procurement.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the need for a favorable investment climate to support the development of one-, two-, and three-star hotels in regional areas. It was also emphasized that measures should be taken against individuals offering tourism services through social media without proper registration.
