United Airlines is set to enhance connectivity from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) with new domestic and international routes launching in May 2025. The additions reflect a commitment to expanding travel options for both business and leisure passengers.
New Domestic and International Routes from Chicago
Starting May 22, United will introduce daily flights to Ontario, California (ONT) and Billings, Montana (BIL), strengthening its domestic network. The Ontario service will be operated using a Boeing 737-800, while the Billings route will utilize an Embraer E175 regional jet.
Additionally, a weekly service to Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ) is set to begin on May 24, catering to transborder travelers seeking direct access to Canada’s eastern region. This route will also be operated with an Embraer E175 aircraft.
These additions mark a strategic move to enhance connectivity from the Midwest, offering greater flexibility for travelers seeking seamless domestic and international connections.
Expanded International Services for Summer 2025
United Airlines is refining its global operations from Chicago with schedule modifications and aircraft upgrades for key international routes in the summer season.
- Athens: Daily service to Athens will begin earlier than planned, now launching on May 1 and running through September 24, 2025. The route will utilize the Boeing 787-10, an upgrade from the originally scheduled 787-8, providing increased capacity and enhanced passenger comfort.
- Barcelona: Flights will commence on April 21, 2025, moving up from the initial May 1 launch. The service will start with a Boeing 787-10 before transitioning to a 787-8 on May 1, maintaining daily operations.
- Dublin: The transatlantic route will see an aircraft upgrade from the Boeing 757-200 to the Boeing 787-8 starting March 29, enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.
- Milan Malpensa: Seasonal service to Milan will resume on April 7, slightly later than the originally planned March 29 date, operating daily with a Boeing 787-8.
- Munich: The aircraft serving this route will transition from a Boeing 787-10 to a 787-8 beginning March 29, maintaining daily frequency. Conversely, the Paris Charles de Gaulle service will switch to a larger 787-10 from the 787-8 on the same date, also operating daily.
Expanded Seasonal European Connectivity
United is also reinforcing its summer travel schedule with expanded transatlantic services:
- Reykjavik Keflavik: The Chicago O’Hare–Reykjavik route will resume on May 19 and continue through September 23, 2025. Operated by a Boeing 757-200, the daily service caters to strong demand for Nordic travel.
- Shannon: This seasonal route returns on May 22, offering daily Boeing 757-200 flights through September 23.
With these strategic expansions, United continues to optimize its network, providing travelers with more choices and improved connectivity from its key Midwest hub.
