Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met Japan’s State Minister Furukawa Yasushi in Tokyo, seeking to boost tourism and cultural ties between Assam and Japan.
Tokyo: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently met Furukawa Yasushi, Japan’s State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, to explore ways to enhance tourism exchanges between Assam and Japan.
During their discussion, CM Sarma showcased Assam’s rich tourism potential, emphasizing iconic sites such as the historic Charaideo Moidams, the renowned Kaziranga National Park, and the state’s picturesque tea gardens and golf courses. He invited Japanese travelers to experience these unique attractions, which he believes could be a major draw for visitors seeking cultural and natural heritage.
The meeting was aimed at building stronger tourism connections, with a focus on fostering cultural and economic collaboration. Both leaders expressed optimism about opening new avenues for engagement, potentially setting the stage for more robust ties between Assam and Japan.
Tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
Later, CM Sarma honored the memory of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. He laid floral tributes and reflected on Netaji’s indomitable spirit and his pivotal role in India’s independence movement. Sarma described Bose as a symbol of courage and patriotism, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
This tribute coincides with the government’s recognition of Netaji’s contributions. In 2021, January 23 was designated as Parakram Diwas, a day dedicated to his extraordinary leadership. Additionally, the unveiling of Netaji’s statue at India Gate—part of the Kartavya Path redevelopment—has become a landmark tribute, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting it as a reflection of India’s cultural pride and resurgence.
