Thailand celebrates National Elephant Day at Anantara Golden Triangle with rescued elephants roaming free, cultural festivities, and conservation awareness.
Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, in collaboration with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), celebrated Thai National Elephant Day by granting its 20 rescued elephants free rein across the resort. These elephants, previously saved from urbanization and illegal logging camps, enjoyed two days of festivities alongside local children, artists, and resort guests. The event highlighted the significant role elephants play in Thai culture and emphasized conservation efforts.
Elephant Education and Cultural Immersion
The celebration began with a spiritual ceremony followed by a special lunch hosted by the Anantara team for local schoolchildren. The main highlight of the day, an elephant education workshop, allowed students to observe the gentle giants in their natural habitat. Afterward, they participated in a live elephant massage demonstration led by an osteopath, inspiring many young attendees to consider careers as elephant caretakers or wildlife veterinarians.
Craft Market and Elephant Feast
To support local artisans, Anantara Golden Triangle organized a craft market featuring elephant-themed souvenirs and handicrafts. The celebration concluded with a grand buffet of the elephants’ favorite treats, laid out along the scenic riverbank, allowing the gentle giants to indulge while guests watched in admiration.
By blending education, cultural appreciation, and conservation efforts, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Thailand’s elephants and preserving their place in the country’s rich heritage.
“In today’s digital society, it’s easy to lose touch with nature and our roots. This national day not only is a heartfelt gesture from our community to the elephants, but also a chance to remind the young about the way of life that has shaped Thai society for centuries” – Arnaud Béril, General Manager of Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp and Resort.
