American Airlines is setting a new benchmark in its international operations this summer by introducing five daily non-stop flights between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and London Heathrow (LHR). Launching March 30, 2025, this marks the highest-ever frequency the airline has operated on any of its long-haul routes — a milestone in its transatlantic strategy.

The ramp-up in service coincides with the seasonal switch to IATA’s Northern Hemisphere summer schedule. It also fills the gap left by British Airways, which will pause its DFW-Heathrow route starting March 29. The UK carrier’s decision includes suspending its Airbus A380 flights to Texas for the season. British Airways is scheduled to return on October 26 with a Boeing 777-200ER, though aircraft assignments may still change.

This five-times-daily milestone hasn’t been seen on any of American’s international routes for over a decade. According to Cirium Diio, the last time a long-haul route hit this level of frequency was in 2012, when the DFW-Heathrow corridor briefly reached four daily flights operated by Boeing 767-300ERs and 777-200ERs — both now retired or repurposed.

The new fifth daily flight will continue until October 25, after which American plans to scale back to four daily services once British Airways resumes operations on the route. However, in May and June, a few select days will temporarily revert to four flights due to operational adjustments.

Inside American’s Summer 2025 Long-Haul Playbook

Throughout the summer travel season, American Airlines will operate more than 70 long-haul international routes across Europe, Asia, and South America. But only the DFW-Heathrow route will hit five daily frequencies, spotlighting its critical role in the airline’s global network.

Here’s a look at American’s most frequent long-haul services planned for July 2025:

  • New York JFK to Heathrow: Four daily (777-300ER/777-200ER)
  • Charlotte to Heathrow: Three daily (777-200ER/777-300ER)
  • Chicago O’Hare to Heathrow: Three daily (787-9)
  • Los Angeles to Heathrow: Two daily (777-200ER/777-300ER)
  • Los Angeles to Tokyo Haneda: Two daily (787-8)
  • Miami to Buenos Aires: Two daily (777-200ER/787-8)

  • Philadelphia to Heathrow: Two daily (787-9)

Throwback: When JFK-Heathrow Ruled the Skies

While Dallas/Fort Worth to Heathrow is now American’s top-performing long-haul route by frequency, the crown once belonged to New York JFK. On March 28, 2008, the airline operated six daily JFK-Heathrow flights — all on Boeing 777-200ERs — a level of intensity unmatched in today’s network.

With five daily flights set for the months ahead, American Airlines is making a decisive play for transatlantic dominance from its Texas stronghold. As travelers prepare for a bustling summer season, the DFW-Heathrow corridor is poised to become one of the busiest and most competitive international routes in the sky.
