AirAsia has updated its policy regarding the use and charging of power banks on all flights, starting 1 April 2025. These updates are in line with international aviation safety guidelines, aiming to minimize the risk of battery-related incidents during air travel.

Passengers are advised to check that their power banks meet the airline’s requirements before heading to the airport to ensure a seamless check-in and boarding experience. Only power banks with a capacity of up to 100 watt-hours (Wh) or 20,000 milliampere-hours (mAh) are allowed. For power banks between 100Wh and 160Wh, prior approval from the airline is required at the check-in counter.

For safety purposes:

  • Power banks must be kept in the seat pocket or under the seat.
  • Storing power banks in the overhead compartment is not allowed.
  • Power banks are not permitted for use during the flight.
  • Charging other portable electronic devices with power banks is prohibited during the flight.
  • Power banks cannot be placed in checked luggage and must be carried in the cabin.

To ensure compliance, AirAsia will display safety notifications at check-in counters and reinforce the policy through announcements during boarding and the flight. AirAsia is dedicated to maintaining the highest safety standards in accordance with industry best practices, prioritizing the protection of guests, crew, and aircraft from potential hazards.

The airline appreciates the cooperation of all passengers in following these enhanced safety measures as part of its ongoing efforts to provide a secure and more comfortable travel experience for everyone.
