Accor‘s Mercure Hotels celebrates reaching 1,000 properties globally, emphasizing local authenticity and enriching guest experiences through exciting new openings.

Mercure Hotels, a brand recognized for its commitment to local exploration and discovery, has celebrated a remarkable achievement with the inauguration of its 1,000th hotel. Following its 50th anniversary in 2023, the brand enjoys unprecedented popularity among hotel owners, demonstrating strong growth momentum across the globe. This year alone, nearly 30 Mercure hotels have opened in Greater China, expanding the brand’s presence to over 180 establishments in the region. Additionally, Mercure has doubled its footprint in Japan, recently launching 11 hotels nationwide.

The milestone of 1,000 hotels was reached in 2024, marked by several notable openings, including Mercure London Earls Court (UK), Mercure Chandigarh Tribune Chowk (India), Mercure Fukuoka Munakata Resort & Spa (Japan), Mercure Marival Emotions Resort (Mexico), Mercure Nantong Renmin Road (China), and Mercure Dubai Deira (UAE). With the largest development pipeline within Accor’s portfolio, Mercure is poised for continued growth, with over 200 more hotels slated to open by 2028.

“This has been a transformative year for Mercury. The achievement of more than 1,000 destinations cements the brand’s position as one of the world’s leading portfolios of midscale hotels, present in almost every corner of the globe,” said Jean-Jacques Morin, Group Deputy CEO, Accor . “We are immensely proud of the way Mercure has grown and evolved, with an openness to developing new properties, and an easy transition for welcoming existing hotels into its fold. We cannot wait to see what this charming and spirited brand will accomplish in its next fifty years.”

From its modest origins in the 1970s, Mercure has experienced a remarkable evolution. Acquired by Accor in 1975, the brand swiftly expanded, marking its presence across Europe and beyond. Significant milestones include the opening of its inaugural international hotel in Lisbon in 1983, followed by its expansion into the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australia in 1994. The year 2024 stands out for the brand’s substantial growth in China and Japan, helping it achieve the milestone of over 1,000 properties in 68 countries around the globe.

“The invaluable partnership of our Mercure hotel owners is fueling the brand’s momentum – an amazing community of hoteliers who are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of service and quality at each of our destinations,” said Camil Yazbeck, Global Chief Development Officer, Premium, Midscale & Economy Division, Accor .  “Mercure is an exceptionally attractive brand for hoteliers, providing the assurance of strong brand recognition, a diversified global network, high price premiums, and adaptable design approach they can tailor to their local market.”

As Mercure celebrates this significant milestone, the brand remains steadfast in its mission to connect guests with the true essence of their destinations. Recent additions to the Mercure portfolio include:
