The Matka Travel Fair 2025, held from January 16 to 19 at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre, solidified its reputation as Northern Europe’s largest travel event. This year’s edition saw a significant 11% increase in visitor numbers, with 56,000 attendees, including travel professionals and the general public, seeking inspiration for upcoming trips. The event provided a dynamic platform for networking, industry innovations and destination showcases, reinforcing its role as the key meeting point for travel professionals, consumers and stakeholders.

A Stronger International Presence and Professional Engagement

The 37th edition of Matka Travel Fair attracted 850 companies from 70 countries, demonstrating its growing global appeal. Professional Day, which took place on January 15, saw an increase in international industry visitors, leading to a vibrant atmosphere of business networking and partnerships. The Matka Workshop Day, organised a day before the fair, welcomed 685 professionals, with 250 international buyers from 45 countries engaging in over 4,000 B2B meetings.

According to Noora Haatainen, Business Manager of Matka Travel Fair, the increased attendance highlights the importance of in-person interactions in travel planning. “Visitors want to make their travel planning an experience, discover destinations and meet professionals face-to-face. Year after year, Matka Travel Fair proves to be the most important industry meeting point, bringing together professionals, travellers and key industry players,” she stated.

Tour Operators Thrive with New Launches and Promotions

Several travel brands used the event as a launchpad for new travel services and promotions. Neckermann Nordic, a new tour operator, made its debut at Matka Travel Fair, receiving strong support from Finnish travellers seeking trips to Turkey, Greece, Egypt and the Canary Islands. According to Director Berk Ercan, Matka Travel Fair played a crucial role in brand-building and direct customer engagement.

Meanwhile, Kuopio returned to the fair after a long hiatus, drawing attention with a central exhibition stand and its famous ski lift chairs, reminding visitors of the region’s year-round tourism appeal. Kuopio’s 250th anniversary celebration was a key attraction, drawing visitors eager to learn about the city’s diverse seasonal travel offerings.

Caravan Fair 2025 – A Growing Interest in Mobile Travel

Running alongside Matka Travel Fair from January 17 to 19, the Helsinki Caravan Fair showcased nearly 200 caravans and trailers, attracting both seasoned vehicle travellers and newcomers. Mika Jokinen, Executive Director of the Association of Touring Vehicle Importers, highlighted the growing enthusiasm for caravan travel, with packed stands and strong business activity.
