When you stay at a Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts property, you’re not just checking into a hotel — you’re stepping into a story. Rooted deeply in the warm, welcoming culture of Sri Lanka, Cinnamon is more than a brand; it’s a feeling.
From the vibrant energy of Cinnamon Grand Colombo to the serenity of Cinnamon Wild Yala, every property offers more than just luxury — it offers connection. You’re greeted not just with a smile, but with genuine curiosity about your journey. The staff remember your name, your favorite tea, and the little details that make you feel at ease.
What sets Cinnamon apart isn’t just its breathtaking locations — though the oceanfronts, rainforests, and historic cities don’t hurt. It’s the brand’s passion for sustainable tourism, authentic local experiences, and community empowerment. Cinnamon has pioneered eco-tourism initiatives in national parks, supported local artisans, and made responsible travel not just a checkbox, but a culture.
Whether you’re on a romantic escape, a wellness retreat, or a wildlife adventure, Cinnamon’s promise is simple: to immerse you in the beauty of the destination, while treating you like a lifelong guest.
In a time when travel is becoming increasingly impersonal, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts invites you to slow down, connect, and rediscover the joy of heartfelt hospitality.
Because in Sri Lanka — and at Cinnamon — hospitality isn’t a service. It’s a way of life.
This interview was conducted by TTW (Travel And Tour World), featuring insights from the Hishan Singhawansa, Deputy CEO & Chief Operating Officer, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and authentic travel experiences.
Could you please introduce Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and share what sets your brand apart?
Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts is a hospitality brand originating from Sri Lanka, currently operating 17 hotels and resorts—13 located in Sri Lanka and 4 in the Maldives. Sustainability forms a core part of their ethos. Most of their properties are situated in pristine, biodiverse locations, and the brand takes environmental responsibility seriously. They focus on three main areas: conserving biodiversity, engaging local communities, and delivering authentic hospitality experiences.
One of their key projects was the Cinnamon Rainforest initiative, where they reforested 60 acres adjacent to a rainforest, restoring it to its natural state. They also collaborate with government bodies and scientists on conservation efforts involving elephants, leopards, and coral reefs. Their approach aims to maintain ecological balance and protect the natural world.
How does Cinnamon engage with the local communities where your resorts are located?
The community is integral to Cinnamon’s operations. Recognizing tourism’s impact on local economies, especially in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Cinnamon actively involves local people in various ways. This includes employment opportunities, sourcing supplies from local vendors, and supporting community trade. They aim to foster a symbiotic relationship where the community thrives alongside the resort.
Community engagement also extends to introducing more people to the hospitality industry, providing training and career development opportunities. This engagement not only supports sustainable tourism but also ensures the local culture and economy benefit from the sector’s growth.
Why has Cinnamon chosen to participate in Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Dubai, and what does the event mean for your brand?
This marks the third year Cinnamon Resorts have participated in ATM Dubai. They regard ATM as an important platform for sharing their story and expanding their reach in the global travel market. The event offers an opportunity not only to promote Cinnamon’s hospitality but also to showcase the broader vision behind Cinnamon Life, their integrated luxury hotel project in Colombo.
Cinnamon Life, located in City Walk Dreams, Colombo, is an innovative urban development featuring two hotels, a gaming facility, a shopping mall, and office spaces. It represents the brand’s commitment to creating multifaceted hospitality experiences that blend leisure, entertainment, and business.
What unique experiences does Cinnamon offer travelers visiting your resorts?
Cinnamon targets travelers seeking connection rather than just Instagram-worthy moments. They focus on enabling guests to engage deeply with the places they visit—connecting with local people, culture, and cuisine. The warmth, hospitality, and generosity of Sri Lankan culture are central to the experiences they offer.
Travelers visiting Cinnamon Resorts are encouraged to find a sense of place and personal connection, helping them return home feeling “soul restored.” This authentic engagement is a defining feature of their resorts, setting them apart in the hospitality industry.
Is there anything else you would like to share about Cinnamon and its future plans?
The brand invites everyone to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka and the Maldives through their resorts. With a diverse portfolio, Cinnamon offers something for every traveler—whether it’s connecting with communities, enjoying pristine natural environments, or experiencing luxury and comfort.
They are particularly excited about Cinnamon Life’s growing prominence in Colombo and the global hospitality arena, aiming to leave a significant mark on both the city and international travelers. Cinnamon hopes to continue welcoming guests with memorable, meaningful experiences that celebrate the richness of their destinations.
