Qatar Airways plans to expand its network in Germany, adding more destinations and increasing flights, including a boost to its popular Doha-Berlin route.
Qatar Airways, headquartered in Doha, is looking to expand its footprint in Germany by increasing its network and adding more destinations. Unlike its competitor Emirates, which is limited to just four cities in Germany, Qatar Airways benefits from an Air Services Agreement (ASA) that allows for greater growth.
Currently, Qatar Airways operates flights to five major German cities: Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich. However, the airline has plans for further expansion, with potential new services to cities like Stuttgart in the future.
In addition, Qatar Airways recently announced the addition of three extra weekly flights on its Doha-Berlin route, bringing the total number of weekly flights to 21. This move is part of the airline’s broader strategy to bolster its presence in the German market.
While many airlines are facing challenges due to delays in the delivery of new aircraft, Qatar Airways is set to receive 50 narrow-body A321neo aircraft starting next year. Ten of these will be long-range models, specifically designed to support network expansion in markets like Germany.
Although some passengers may prefer Gulf-Europe flights operated by wide-body jets, narrow-body aircraft such as the A321s carry less commercial risk when launching new routes, compared to wide-body models like the 787 or A350. In fact, many airlines are now equipping their long-haul narrow-body aircraft with fully flat business class seating.
In Germany, as well as in the UK, Gulf carriers like Qatar Airways are capitalizing on the national airlines’ focus on hub-based operations for long-haul direct flights, thereby providing travelers with more options for connecting flights to destinations around the world.
