Etihad Airways has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Burjeel Holdings, a prominent super-specialty healthcare provider in the MENA region, aimed at enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a premier destination for medical tourism.
This partnership is designed to offer international patients access to top-tier healthcare services and to broaden medical benefits for Etihad Airways employees and their families.
The agreement aligns with the rapid growth of the UAE’s medical tourism sector, which saw wellness tourism expenditure rise to $5.4 billion in 2022, compared to $2.1 billion in 2020, as reported by the Global Wellness Economy Monitor. The UAE is also experiencing the fastest rate of health spending growth within the GCC, with projections indicating that the market will reach $30.7 billion by 2027, according to an Alpen Capital survey.
By leveraging Burjeel’s cutting-edge medical capabilities alongside Etihad Airways’ global network, this partnership aims to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for medical tourism while offering top-notch healthcare services. The agreement creates referral channels for international patients, providing them with direct access to case management and healthcare professionals.
Through this alliance, Burjeel Holdings will offer comprehensive healthcare coverage to Etihad’s employees and their families, ensuring seamless access to its extensive network of hospitals and medical facilities across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra.
Under the terms of the agreement, Burjeel will implement health awareness initiatives and wellness seminars aimed at promoting the well-being of Etihad Airways employees. Furthermore, employees will receive priority access to medical services, ensuring efficient processes and improved healthcare benefits for all staff members.
This agreement reinforces Burjeel Holdings’ dedication to enhancing healthcare access across the UAE. In the previous year, the group introduced the 24/7 Burjeel Airport Clinic at Zayed International Airport, offering continuous medical assistance to travelers, airport personnel, and international patients requiring specialized treatment.
