Six Senses Comporta

Nestled near Lisbon, yet feeling like a world apart, Comporta exudes a unique charm and serene beauty. Just a few miles south lies the new Pinheirinho coastal estate, a project years in the making, poised to redefine mindful design. Six Senses, a key player in IHG Hotels & Resorts‘ rapidly expanding Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, has entered into a hotel management agreement with VIC Properties. This collaboration will bring to life one of the few meticulously curated communities, designed with stringent aesthetic and sustainability guidelines.

An Unspoiled Atlantic Haven

For decades, the 400-hectare Pinheirinho estate was privately owned, accessible only by invitation, with much of its land preserved as a nature reserve of pine forests. Six Senses was chosen to introduce a 70-key hotel and 58 branded residences, creating a seamless blend of nature, community, and hospitality, rooted in sustainability and the brand’s signature offerings.

The architecture is a celebration of the estate’s natural beauty, from the aromatic pine forests to serene lakes and rolling sand dunes. Atlantic waves crash on the golden beach that stretches for miles, adding to the unspoiled allure of this remarkable location.

Bringing the Outdoors In

The experience begins as soon as guests arrive, with a tranquil oasis that immediately connects them to the surrounding natural world. The 66 deluxe guest rooms and suites, situated in the wings of the central building, offer versatile options for larger groups. The three garden villas and a presidential villa complete the hotel accommodations, bringing the total to 70.

The 58 branded residences, including two to five-bedroom villas and apartments, are thoughtfully integrated into the landscape. Each residence—whether overlooking the Forest, Sand Dune, or Lake—offers a unique retreat experience. Designed with wellness and biophilic principles in mind, these residences incorporate natural light, air flow, and organic textures. In addition, residents will enjoy exclusive access to the hotel’s amenities, including vibrant lobbies and a dedicated owners’ lounge, offering a space for connection and relaxation.

Announcing the management agreement, Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs said, “Our design approach is about creating spaces that connect people to nature as part of our overall hospitality ethos. Where better to start than by embracing the land’s natural contours of pine forests and sand dunes while drawing on quirks of Comporta, traditions of the Alentejo region, reinterpretation of Portuguese classics, and Six Senses touches that show that luxury doesn’t have to be taken too seriously.”

João Cabaça, co-founder and CEO of VIC Properties, commented, “We are thrilled and honoured to welcome Six Senses to our property in Comporta, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter, reflecting our shared commitment to preserving the rich heritage of this beautiful region. Together we envisioned building a lasting legacy, one that not only respects the land, but also ensures a sustainable future for the estate for generations to come. This is just the start of a journey rooted in respect, authenticity, and connection. We look forward to sharing this unique destination with the world.”

Path of Life

Paths are more than just trails to follow—they symbolize journeys of the mind, body, and spirit. The Path of Life, inspired by sacred geometry, will serve as a sculptural pathway through the resort and residences, offering a route not only for walking but for potential spiritual growth and healing.

This mindful path will feature a dedicated children’s area with both indoor and outdoor facilities for “Grow With Six Senses” activities, focusing on the eight dimensions of wellness. Nearby, the Earth Lab will host workshops on adopting eco-friendly practices, emphasizing sustainability. Guests will be hard-pressed to find any single-use plastics or harmful chemicals on the property, as the focus is on organic, environmentally conscious living.

Crafting the Culinary Experience

Dining will be a communal celebration, bringing together guests, residents, and the local community. The main restaurant will highlight seasonal produce from the on-site vegetable garden, following the “Eat With Six Senses” philosophy. This approach emphasizes local, sustainable ingredients and a “less is more” mindset. A pool bar and grill will offer casual dining options, with additional al fresco spots perfect for long summer lunches.

A wine bar will feature local winemakers and an eclectic drinks menu, including mocktails and cocktails. The deli café and market will stock fresh produce ideal for beach or poolside picnics. The Chef’s Table, located in the vegetable garden, will host pop-up events and cooking classes that showcase the principles of farm-to-table and local produce.

Retreat Within a Retreat

Tucked among towering pines, Six Senses Spa Comporta blends seamlessly into the landscape with green roofs. The entrance building will house a welcome lounge, a state-of-the-art gym, and a yoga studio on the first floor. The treatment building will feature a central courtyard, providing a serene space for guests before or after indulging in high-touch, high-tech wellness therapies and longevity programs. The wet and thermal building will offer an indoor/outdoor pool, steam and sauna rooms, and a range of hydrotherapy facilities. The Alchemy Bar will provide a space for guests to create natural handmade spa products and gifts, further enhancing the sensory experience.

Every Day Well Spent

At Six Senses Comporta, the pace of life is slow and deliberate. With only the occasional Mini Moke, horse rider, or barefoot cyclist passing by, days melt effortlessly into weeks. Start your day with sunrise yoga, followed by morning kitesurfing, or enjoy lunch at the beach club with local wine and the day’s fresh catch. Unhurried afternoons at the 18-hole golf course or the family-friendly sports center offer a variety of activities for everyone. As evening falls, Pinheirinho comes alive with options to shop at designer boutiques or enjoy a delicious meal, whether dining in or out.

Six Senses Comporta will join IHG Hotels & Resorts’ rapidly expanding Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, which now includes nearly 100 open hotels across Europe, including eight Six Senses properties in Italy, Switzerland, France, Israel, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey. The resort is also part of IHG’s 24 open properties in Portugal and a promising pipeline of 13 upcoming hotels, including Kimpton Atlântico Algarve, marking the brand’s debut in the country, and Kimpton Lisbon.
