Las Vegas has seen a significant rise in tourism spending, with lodging prices reaching record highs in 2024. The average nightly hotel rate now stands at approximately $179, marking a 57% increase from pre-pandemic levels. With around 150,612 hotel rooms available, occupancy remains strong at 83.6%.

Spending on food and drinks has also surged. Visitors now shell out an average of $615 on dining and beverages, a sharp jump from $410.7 in 2019 and $462.4 in 2021. Gambling expenditures have followed suit, with the average visitor spending about $820 in 2024, up from $591 in 2019.

Most travelers to Las Vegas are not first-time visitors. In 2024, only 14% of the 41.7 million tourists were experiencing the city for the first time, compared to 25% in 2019. This steady return rate highlights the city’s strong appeal to repeat guests.

Generational trends show notable differences in spending habits. Millennials prefer staying in the city center and spend around $62.8 on entertainment—$7 more than Gen X but $10 less than Baby Boomers. Meanwhile, Gen Z leans toward non-gaming experiences, spending an average of $93.5 on these activities.

Casino demographics have also shifted. The average age of casino-goers nationwide has dropped from 50 to 42 since the pandemic, with millennials now representing the largest segment, significantly reshaping Las Vegas tourism.

Visitors from the western United States continue to make up a large portion of Las Vegas tourists. About one-third of all visitors come from California, and when including travelers from Arizona and Utah, they account for another quarter of the total.

International tourism remains steady at around 12% of total visitors, slightly below pre-pandemic levels. However, foreign travelers tend to spend significantly more—around $270 extra on food and drinks, $140 more on shopping, and an additional $24 per night on accommodations.

Interestingly, despite their overall higher spending, international visitors did not outspend domestic tourists on sporting events in Las Vegas last year.
