Hong Kong welcomed 8.4 million visitors during the first two months of 2025, reflecting a 7% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB).
Of this total, around 6.5 million arrivals came from the mainland, marking a 4% rise year-on-year. Meanwhile, visitors from other regions saw a substantial increase, reaching 1.91 million, which is a 20% jump from the previous year, as reported by the HKTB.
The short-haul markets performed particularly well, with 1.13 million visitors arriving during the period, a 26% growth. Travelers from the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea saw increases of over 30%.
In the long-haul travel segment, Hong Kong saw approximately 500,000 international arrivals, marking a notable 20% rise. Australia led this growth with an impressive 34% increase.
To further enhance the traveler experience, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has introduced a new initiative called “Hong Kong Great Outdoors.” This platform aims to showcase the city’s breathtaking hiking routes, remote islands, and geological parks to visitors from around the world.
Additionally, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government’s 2025/2026 budget proposal includes a substantial investment of 1.235 billion Hong Kong dollars (158.8 million U.S. dollars) for the tourism board. This funding will support the realization of the “tourism is everywhere” vision and the continued development of the Tourism Industry Development Blueprint 2.0.
