Barbados officials toured P&O Cruises’ Britannia, led by Carnival Corp, to explore its advanced sustainability and waste management systems.

Carnival Corporation recently hosted key government and regulatory officials from Barbados on P&O Cruises’ Britannia to provide a detailed presentation on their environmental sustainability initiatives.

Sander Groothuis, Carnival UK’s Vice President of Marine and Port Operations, presented an insightful overview of P&O Cruises’ operations based in Barbados.

Michele Andjel, Vice President of Public Relations at Carnival UK, highlighted significant environmental achievements by Carnival Corporation.

Following the presentation, the attendees were guided through Britannia’s advanced environmental systems. This included a detailed tour of the ship’s bridge featuring the OneOcean platform.

The tour emphasized Britannia’s rigorous waste management protocols, under the guidance of Environmental Officer Douglas Lauder. This included a practical demonstration of how the ship meticulously sorts and processes recyclables.

Participants were also informed about the important role of the ship’s first engineer, who is responsible for managing these systems, and learned that the ship generates more than 80% of its potable water from seawater.

Additionally, P&O Cruises showcased their community engagement initiatives in Barbados, which involve collaborations with local entities such as St. Mary’s Primary School, Walkers Reserve, and the National Cultural Foundation.
