Air Astana Group tightens lithium battery transport rules, restricting capacity limits, onboard charging, and requiring spare batteries in carry-on luggage.
Thursday, 13th March 2025 – Air Astana Group has reinforced its safety measures concerning the transportation of lithium batteries and battery-powered devices on its flights.
Under the updated regulations, all spare batteries, including power banks and electronic smoking devices, must be carried in hand luggage. If a passenger’s carry-on bag is required to be checked in, they must remove any spare batteries beforehand.
Revised Guidelines for Lithium Battery Transport
- Battery Capacity Restrictions:
- Batteries with a capacity of up to 100Wh are permitted in carry-on baggage.
- Batteries ranging between 100Wh and 160Wh require prior airline approval, with a limit of two per passenger.
- Batteries exceeding 160Wh are strictly prohibited.
- Each battery’s capacity will be verified before transportation.
- Certification and Proper Labeling:
- Batteries without capacity markings or proper certification are not allowed on board.
- Onboard Usage Rules:
- Lithium batteries, power banks, and electronic smoking devices must be stored in overhead luggage racks during the flight.
- Charging devices or using power banks to charge other electronics on board is strictly prohibited.
Air Astana Group urges all passengers flying with Air Astana and FlyArystan to review the latest lithium battery transport guidelines available on the airline’s official websites before traveling. These measures aim to enhance flight safety and prevent potential hazards associated with battery-powered devices.
