Dnata has secured a seven-year license extension to provide ground handling services at Zürich Airport (ZRH), reaffirming its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in Switzerland.

dnata, a leading global provider of air and travel services, has successfully retained its license to offer ground handling services at Zürich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland. The renewal follows a competitive public tender process conducted by the airport operator, ensuring dnata’s presence at ZRH for another seven years. This achievement underscores the company’s reputation for reliability, innovation, and operational excellence in the aviation industry.

A Strong Presence in Zürich

With a workforce of over 500 dedicated employees, dnata currently supports 40 passenger and cargo airlines at Zürich Airport. The company plays a pivotal role in the airport’s daily operations, managing more than 35 aircraft turnarounds and handling over 150 tonnes of cargo each day. Its consistent performance and commitment to safety have solidified its position as a trusted partner for airlines and the airport authority alike.

Investments in Innovation and Sustainability

dnata has made significant investments at Zürich Airport to enhance its service capabilities and align with industry trends toward digitalization and sustainability. One of the key initiatives is the implementation of its advanced digital cargo management system, One Cargo. This cloud-based platform automates critical business and operational functions, including safety and quality monitoring, reporting, and Unit Load Device (ULD) management, streamlining processes and improving efficiency.

In addition to digital transformation, dnata has prioritized sustainability by modernizing its ground support equipment (GSE) fleet. The company has increased the proportion of electric vehicles to 42%, reducing its environmental footprint and contributing to Zürich Airport’s sustainability goals.

Expanding Cargo Handling Capacity

To meet growing demand, dnata recently announced plans to expand its cargo handling capacity at Zürich Airport by more than 50%. The company has signed a lease agreement with the airport authority to operate a state-of-the-art warehouse facility spanning 9,500 square meters. Scheduled to open in early 2027, the facility will be exclusively managed by dnata and is expected to significantly enhance its cargo operations. Construction is already underway, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth strategy.

A Testament to Trust and Excellence

Willy Ruf, Managing Director of dnata Switzerland, expressed pride in the license renewal, stating, “We are honored to have earned the trust of Zürich Airport once again. This extension is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional service. We will continue to invest in our people, infrastructure, and equipment to ensure we remain a leader in the industry.”

dnata’s Broader Impact in Switzerland

Beyond Zürich, dnata also operates at Geneva Airport (GVA), further strengthening its footprint in Switzerland. In 2024 alone, the company assisted over four million departing passengers and handled more than 103,000 tonnes of cargo across its Swiss operations. These achievements highlight dnata’s vital role in supporting the country’s aviation sector and its contribution to the local economy.
