Eilean Mor
 Scottish island

Eilean Mor, a secluded Scottish island, is on the market for £325,000—offering stunning views, serenity, and a rare chance to own a peaceful, off-grid retreat.

An entire island, Eilean Mor, has been listed for sale at a price far below that of a typical London apartment. Located within Loch Sunart on Scotland’s west coast, this private island spans 30 acres and is a sanctuary for nature lovers, particularly bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Eilean Mor features lush, rolling green hills and crystal-clear waters stretching out into the horizon. Its secluded position offers an escape into serene isolation, offering a stark contrast to the fast-paced life of the city.

The island boasts three picturesque cove beaches, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking to disconnect and live off the grid. Priced at £325,000, it’s notably more affordable than the average flat in London, which costs around £543,237, according to Luxury Property News.

Access to the island is limited, as it can only be reached by boat or across a causeway during low tide, adding to its sense of remoteness. The island is part of the Sunart Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the Sunart Special Area of Conservation (SAC), meaning there is no planning permission for development.

While the island offers seclusion, the village of Strontian is just a seven-minute drive away, with numerous hiking trails and climbs in the nearby Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve.

Eilean Mor is also home to a historical mystery. In 1900, three lighthouse keepers mysteriously disappeared. Captain James Harvey was bringing a replacement keeper, Joseph Moore, to the island when they noticed something was wrong—no one was there to greet them. Moore, sensing an eerie unease, ventured ashore, where he found the lighthouse door ajar, two coats missing, and signs of an abandoned meal. Despite extensive searches, the lighthouse keepers were never found.
