tourism movement

Rangapani, Simong, Shergaon, Tataya, and Northeastern India drive a powerful sustainable tourism movement, empowering communities and preserving heritage.

The Green Hub x Royal Enfield Responsible Tourism (GH-RE RT) Conclave, now in its third edition, is driving a new wave of sustainable travel in the northeastern Himalayas. Backed by the Royal Enfield Social Mission, this two-day event brought together passionate young conservationists, local communities, entrepreneurs, and tourism industry leaders. The conclave served as a platform for collaboration, where innovative ideas and responsible tourism initiatives took the spotlight, fostering a shared commitment to ecological preservation and socioeconomic growth.

At the heart of the event was the presentation of Responsible Tourism action plans by the latest cohort of Green Hub x Royal Enfield Responsible Tourism Fellows. These projects, developed over six months of immersive training and mentorship, introduced sustainable travel models deeply rooted in community engagement. From waste-free tourism initiatives to agro-tourism and conservation-based travel experiences, each project demonstrated the power of youth-led innovation in shaping a sustainable tourism landscape.

Another key feature of the conclave was the participation of fellowship alumni, who shared their transformative journeys and the tangible impact of their initiatives. These alumni, having successfully implemented their projects, provided insight into real-world challenges and solutions, inspiring the next generation of responsible tourism advocates.

Beyond presentations, the conclave embraced the rich cultural diversity of Northeast India through interactive exhibitions, traditional performances, and indigenous craft showcases. Community members from different project sites engaged visitors with their heritage, demonstrating how responsible tourism is not only about ecological conservation but also about preserving cultural identities. Through storytelling, folklore, and hands-on experiences, attendees gained a deeper appreciation of the region’s traditions and the role of local communities in safeguarding them.

Empowering the Next Generation of Sustainable Tourism Leaders

The Green Hub x Royal Enfield Responsible Tourism Fellowship is designed to equip young changemakers with essential skills to develop and implement sustainable tourism models. Over six months, fellows receive intensive training, hands-on exposure, and expert mentorship, allowing them to create initiatives that benefit both local communities and the environment.

In this latest cycle, 14 fellows from eight states worked on four key Responsible Tourism sites, each selected for its unique ecological and cultural importance:

  • Rangapani, Baksa, Assam
  • Simong, Upper Siang, Arunachal Pradesh
  • Shergaon, West Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh
  • Tataya, Majuli, Assam

These locations are paving the way for a new era of tourism—one that prioritizes conservation, community empowerment, and long-term sustainability. Through grassroots participation, these models not only create responsible tourism destinations but also generate viable economic opportunities for local populations.

A Growing Movement for Community-Led Conservation

Since its launch, the fellowship has engaged youth from 23 communities across eight states, strengthening the region’s conservation efforts through a tourism-driven approach. Each year, the initiative expands its reach, establishing scalable, community-driven tourism models that ensure both economic resilience and environmental sustainability.

With every conclave, the Green Hub x Royal Enfield movement gains momentum, inspiring more individuals and communities to embrace sustainable travel practices. As the initiative continues to evolve, it sets a powerful precedent for the future—where tourism is not just about exploration, but about preservation, empowerment, and lasting impact.
