Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, has confirmed that it will transition to 100% digital boarding passes starting November 3, 2025, aligning with the launch of its Winter 2025 schedule.

This move, announced by Ryanair’s corporate communications, aims to eliminate paper boarding passes while streamlining the check-in process and improving customer experience.

A Move Towards Digital Travel Efficiency

Currently, 80% of Ryanair passengers use the myRyanair app for digital boarding. From November 2025, all passengers will be required to check in online or through the app, which will generate an electronic boarding pass instead of a printable version.

This transition will allow Ryanair to eliminate most airport check-in fees, as all passengers will have completed their check-in digitally.

The airline’s transition to a fully paperless system follows similar digitalization trends seen in other industries such as rail and event ticketing.

Environmental Benefits of Paperless Boarding

Ryanair’s shift to digital boarding passes aligns with the airline’s sustainability efforts.

According to Ryanair’s corporate responsibility reports, this initiative will:

  • Reduce over 300 tones of paper waste annually, minimizing the airline’s carbon footprint.
  • Eliminate the need for paper-based check-in materials, promoting eco-friendly travel.
  • Encourage passengers to embrace digital solutions for a seamless travel experience.

Enhanced Travel Features via the myRyanair App

In addition to offering digital boarding passes, the myRyanair app provides several features designed to enhance passenger convenience.

According to official Ryanair service updates, passengers using the app will benefit from:

  • Live flight status updates, including boarding gate assignments and delays.
  • Real-time notifications from Ryanair’s Operations Centre during disruptions.
  • New Order to Seat feature, allowing passengers to order meals and drinks directly from their seats.
  • Alternative flight options in case of cancellations or delays.
  • Access to travel documents in one place, simplifying airport procedures.

Ryanair’s Growth Strategy and Future Plans

With this move, Ryanair continues its digital transformation while maintaining its focus on low fares and efficiency. The airline aims to increase its passenger base to 300 million travelers over the next decade, making streamlined, paperless travel an integral part of its growth strategy.

By introducing 100% digital boarding passes, Ryanair reinforces its commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and customer service innovation, ensuring a seamless experience for all passengers from November 2025 onward.
