After an extensive two-year restoration, one of Madrid’s most historic hotels has reopened with a new identity. The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid, formerly known as the Westin Palace Madrid, has officially joined The Luxury Collection by Marriott, a distinguished portfolio of heritage hotels known for their cultural significance.

A Historic Landmark Restored

First opened in 1912, the hotel has long been an architectural gem in Barrio de las Letras, centrally located between Plaza Mayor and the Prado Museum.

The exterior underwent a meticulous restoration led by Ruiz Larrea Arquitectura, with a focus on reviving its original façade. Specialists uncovered intricate floral details that had been hidden over time, restoring the building’s former grandeur.

One of the hotel’s most remarkable features, the stained-glass and iron dome, originally designed by Eduardo Ferrés i Puig, was also fully restored.

Over 100 specialists worked to dismantle and reconstruct the dome’s 1,875 glass panes, ensuring its preservation as a defining element of the property.

New Design Inspired by Legendary Guests

The hotel’s interiors have been transformed under the creative direction of Lázaro Rosa-Violán, blending classic luxury with contemporary design.

The décor pays homage to notable past guests such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Mata Hari, and Ernest Hemingway.

Guests will discover hidden optical illusions in the carpets and artwork, hand-painted wallpapers, and mosaic tiles inspired by Madrid’s Royal Botanical Gardens.

Every design detail reflects a connection to the city’s artistic and literary heritage, reinforcing the hotel’s place in Madrid’s cultural landscape.

Luxurious Accommodations & Dining

The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid, offers 470 elegantly designed rooms and suites, ranging from 344-square-foot deluxe rooms to expansive suites overlooking the Neptuno Fountain.

Beneath the beautifully restored dome, La Cúpula welcomes guests and locals alike to experience refined Spanish cuisine and signature cocktails.

The menu pays tribute to Madrid’s culinary history, featuring dishes inspired by Julio Camba and Pablo Picasso.

The 27 Club, an exclusive cocktail bar, honors Generation ’27, a collective of Spanish artists and writers from the 1920s.

Here, visitors can sip on historically inspired cocktails, browse archival guest books, and admire over 70 custom illustrations depicting the hotel’s storied past.

A New Chapter in Madrid’s Luxury Hospitality

Now part of The Luxury Collection, The Palace continues its legacy as a premier destination for travelers seeking an elegant blend of historical charm and modern luxury. The restoration ensures that this Madrid landmark remains a symbol of sophistication for years to come.
