Dubai College of Tourism (DCT)

The Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), in partnership with Marriott International, is set to launch the Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality—Apprenticeship Programme for Emiratis. This initiative, accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education, aims to equip Emirati nationals with the skills and experience necessary for successful careers in Dubai’s burgeoning hospitality sector.

Programme Overview

Commencing on May 12, 2025, the two-year, full-time apprenticeship is exclusively designed for UAE Nationals aged 18 and above who aspire to build careers in the hospitality industry.

Participants will be employed full-time by Marriott-branded hotels in the UAE, receiving a monthly salary and benefits such as medical insurance, uniforms, meals during duty hours, and contributions to the pension scheme.

Additionally, support from Nafis for a top-up is available, and apprentices will enjoy discounts at Marriott hotels and restaurants worldwide.

Educational Structure

The programme adopts a blended learning approach, with 40% of the curriculum delivered through classroom instruction at DCT’s One Central campus and 60% through practical on-the-job training at Marriott properties.

This structure ensures that apprentices gain comprehensive knowledge in areas such as front office operations, food and beverage management, housekeeping, revenue management, beverage preparation, and customer service skills.

The curriculum also emphasizes the development of professionalism, tolerance, communication, and critical thinking skills, fostering global citizenship among participants.

Alignment with Dubai’s Economic Agenda (D33)

This apprenticeship aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy by 2033, positioning it among the top three global cities for living, investing, and working.

A key priority of D33 is integrating the next generation of Emiratis into the private sector, and this programme serves as a strategic initiative towards that goal.

Leadership Perspectives

Mariam Sultan Al Maeeni, Director of Industry Nationalisation at DCT, expressed confidence that the collaboration with Marriott International will contribute to the growth and success of Dubai’s hospitality industry by bringing in more local talent and providing guests with exceptional experiences and service.

Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer, Middle East & Luxury, Europe, Middle East & Africa at Marriott International, highlighted the company’s commitment to developing future hospitality leaders in the region, emphasizing that the programme will equip young Emiratis with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to thrive within the travel industry and contribute to the UAE’s journey toward greater success.

Post-Completion Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, Marriott International plans to offer graduates full-time positions within its UAE properties, facilitating seamless integration into the workforce and contributing to the nation’s Emiratisation goals.

Application Process

Applications for the inaugural intake are currently being accepted. Interested Emirati applicants who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply through the DCT website.

Conclusion

The collaboration between DCT and Marriott International represents a significant milestone in empowering Emirati talent and advancing Dubai’s hospitality industry.

By combining academic learning with practical experience, the programme not only equips participants with essential skills but also aligns with the broader objectives of Dubai’s Economic Agenda, D33, fostering economic growth and reinforcing the city’s status as a leading global hub for business and leisure.
