China and UAE strengthen ties with new Shanghai-Abu Dhabi direct flights from April 28, boosting trade, tourism, and seamless connectivity.
China Eastern Airlines is set to make history as the first Chinese carrier to introduce nonstop flights between Shanghai and Abu Dhabi, with operations commencing on April 28. The Shanghai-based airline announced the new route on Monday, marking a significant milestone in air connectivity between China and the UAE.
The Shanghai-Abu Dhabi service will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—departing from Shanghai Pudong International Airport and returning from Abu Dhabi on the same day (local time). The flights will be jointly operated in partnership with Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE.
As the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi plays a pivotal role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), offering strategic advantages with its free trade zone policies, energy sector, and financial resources. The introduction of this direct air link is expected to enhance trade relations, foster business collaborations, and strengthen cultural exchanges between the two destinations.
Additionally, the new route aims to boost tourism by making travel more convenient for visitors exploring both Shanghai and Abu Dhabi. The improved connectivity will also provide a seamless link between the Yangtze River Delta and the Gulf region, opening new opportunities for travel, trade, and investment.
Passengers can now book tickets for the Shanghai-Abu Dhabi flights via China Eastern Airlines’ official website and mobile app.
