Travelex has significantly expanded its presence at Dubai International Airport (DXB), launching four new stores to meet the growing demand for foreign exchange services. This expansion comes as DXB recorded 92.3 million passengers in 2024, surpassing its pre-pandemic peak and solidifying its status as the world’s busiest airport for international travel.
DXB’s Record-Breaking Growth Fuels Expansion
The surge in passenger numbers at DXB reflects Dubai’s continued dominance as a global aviation hub. The airport’s 2024 passenger volume not only surpassed its 2018 pre-COVID record but also set a new global benchmark for international airport traffic.
With Dubai’s strategic location as a key transit hub and a leading tourism and business destination, the demand for seamless travel services, including currency exchange, has surged. Travelex, a long-standing partner of Dubai Airports, has responded to this demand by expanding its footprint.
Travelex Strengthens Presence with Four New Stores
Travelex has opened four new strategically located stores across DXB’s terminals:
- Terminal 1 – Baggage reclaim
- Terminal 2 – Landside departures and baggage reclaim
- Terminal 3 – Airside departures
Travelers can exchange over 60 currencies on-site or collect pre-ordered foreign currency, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.
Since establishing its first store at DXB in 2009, Travelex has grown to operate 35 stores at Dubai International Airport and three at Dubai World Central (DWC), employing over 540 staff across the UAE.
UAE Investment and Expansion Plans
Travelex’s latest expansion at DXB aligns with its ongoing investment in the UAE. In 2023, the company launched 13 new stores across the country, including six at DXB, further cementing its role as a key player in airport financial services.
Batu Dölay, Managing Director of Travelex Middle East and Türkiye, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting DXB’s growth:
“DXB’s success is the envy of global hubs, and our new stores reflect our mission to provide accessible and convenient services to the growing number of visitors to the region.”
Alison Macdonald, Vice President – Commercial Concession Management at Dubai Airports, echoed the sentiment, stating:
“Travelex’s expansion at DXB enhances the airport experience by providing essential foreign exchange services with greater accessibility. We value our long-standing partnership and look forward to their continued contribution.”
The Future of Travel Services at DXB
With Dubai’s aviation sector booming and DXB handling record passenger traffic, the demand for financial services, digital payments, and seamless transactions will continue to rise. Travelex’s expansion at the world’s busiest international airport underscores the importance of accessible, efficient foreign exchange services in the evolving travel landscape.
