The Sommeliers Association of India (SAI), the only ASI-affiliated body in the country, is set to transform India’s sommelier landscape with three groundbreaking initiatives. These include the launch of the globally recognized ASI Sommelier Diploma in India, the prestigious SAI 2025 Best Sommelier of India Competition, and the introduction of the SAI Membership Program.

For the first time, the ASI Sommelier Diploma—an internationally esteemed certification in the world of wine and gastronomy—will be available in India exclusively through SAI. The exam is scheduled for March 10, 2025, in Mumbai, and is open to SAI members with at least three years of industry experience. Candidates can achieve certification at three levels—Bronze (60%), Silver (65%), and Gold (75%)—with an additional 10% bonus for exams taken in English, French, or Spanish. Successful candidates will earn the ASI Sommelier Diploma, an official pin, and a globally recognized certificate.

Adding to this milestone, SAI will host a special lecture by renowned sommelier Mattia Antonio Cianca at The Lalit Suri Hospitality School in Delhi on March 17, 2025. This session will offer invaluable insights into the art of wine and sommellerie. The ASI Certification 1 exam will follow on March 18, 2025, at the same venue, open exclusively to SAI members. Registration for the exam closes on February 28, 2025.

Amrita Singh, President of Sommeliers Association of India (SAI), stated, “Bringing the ASI Sommelier Diploma to India is a monumental step for the sommelier community. This certification will not only validate the expertise of Indian sommeliers but also open doors to global opportunities, reinforcing India’s presence on the international wine and hospitality stage. Our membership program is designed to empower sommeliers with the tools and opportunities they need to excel. By joining SAI, members become part of a global community that values excellence, innovation, and collaboration.”

The 2025 Best Sommelier of India Competition concluded with resounding success, celebrating the exceptional talent within India’s sommelier community. Jai Singh emerged as the champion and will proudly represent India at the 2025 ASI Best Sommelier of Asia & Pacific Competition, with aspirations to compete at the prestigious 2026 ASI Best Sommelier of the World Championship. The competition rigorously tested participants on their knowledge, tasting abilities, and service expertise, marking a significant milestone in India’s evolving sommelier landscape.

In addition, the Sommeliers Association of India (SAI) continues to empower professionals through its exclusive Membership Program. As India’s only ASI-affiliated body, SAI offers members access to the globally recognized ASI Diploma, premier networking opportunities, industry-leading masterclasses, and elite competitive platforms. Membership is a gateway to international recognition, as only SAI members can register for the ASI Diploma exam and participate in global sommelier competitions.

Mattia Antonio, Vice President of Sommeliers Association of India (SAI), commented, “The ASI Sommelier Diploma and SAI Membership Program are more than just opportunities; they are a testament to the growing potential of Indian sommeliers. By equipping them with world-class education and a global network, we are paving the way for India to become a key player in the international wine and hospitality industry.”

SAI welcomes all wine and hospitality professionals to be part of this exciting journey. Whether you aspire to earn the prestigious ASI Sommelier Diploma, compete for the title of Best Sommelier of India, or expand your professional network through the SAI Membership Program, this is your chance to elevate your career and contribute to the transformation of India’s wine industry.
