Qatar Airways is relocating its Bangkok Premium Lounge to a larger, more luxurious space at the satellite terminal, enhancing comfort for first and business class travelers.
Qatar Airways Bangkok Premium Lounge Moves to New Terminal with Expanded Space and Exclusive Access
Qatar Airways is set to relocate its Bangkok Premium Lounge to an all-new, state-of-the-art facility at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s midfield satellite terminal. The move aligns with the airline’s current operations, as all five daily flights from Bangkok to Doha have been departing from this terminal since early 2024.
Premium Lounge Access for Business and First Class Travelers
Just like its prestigious Premium Lounges worldwide, the Bangkok Premium Lounge remains exclusively available to first and business class passengers, ensuring a luxurious pre-flight experience. Oneworld frequent flyers traveling in economy, including those flying Qantas, Finnair, and Malaysia Airlines, will continue to be directed to other available lounges at the airport.
For these travelers, alternative lounge options in the main terminal include those operated by Air France, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines, as well as the independent Miracle Lounge.
Major Upgrade Underway for Qatar Airways’ Bangkok Lounge
Currently under construction, the new lounge space is expected to be significantly larger than the existing facility. While it remains a work in progress, sources indicate that Qatar Airways is targeting an opening before the end of the year. Once operational, the existing Premium Lounge in the main terminal will be permanently closed, removing another lounge option for Oneworld business class travelers.
This relocation will bring Qatar Airways’ lounge experience closer to its departure gates, making it more convenient for premium passengers. However, it also means that Oneworld frequent flyers traveling on other airlines will have fewer **high-end lounge choices.
Impact on Oneworld Lounge Access in Bangkok
The shift of Qatar Airways’ lounge mirrors a similar move by Emirates earlier this year, which relocated its Bangkok lounge to the satellite terminal. As a result, Qantas passengers flying to Sydney can no longer access the Emirates lounge, reducing the options for premium travelers.
Similarly, the Cathay Pacific Lounge—a longtime favorite for Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire frequent flyers—has struggled with overcrowding, particularly during peak hours. For example, with Qantas’ 6:00 PM departure to Sydney sandwiched between Cathay flights at 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM, access restrictions have increasingly been enforced. This has led to many Qantas passengers being redirected to the Air France Lounge, which falls short of the premium experience offered by Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific.
Terminal Access and Passenger Convenience
While Suvarnabhumi Airport’s two terminals are connected via an automated people mover train, only passengers departing from the midfield satellite terminal are permitted to use it. This means that Oneworld passengers departing from the main terminal will no longer have access to the new Qatar Airways lounge, further complicating lounge access for business class travelers.
With Qatar Airways’ upgraded lounge set to debut by the end of 2025, this move signals both a step forward for premium travel convenience and a reshuffling of Bangkok’s Oneworld lounge landscape.
