Bengaluru Metro to Offer Extended Services for Women’s Premier League Matches from February 21 to March 1, 2025.
To ensure convenient travel for cricket fans heading to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) T20 matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will provide extended metro services on match days. The matches are set to be held in Bengaluru on February 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and March 1, 2025.
To manage the expected rise in passenger numbers, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will extend operating hours on both the Purple and Green Lines during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches. The last trains from Challaghatta, Whitefield, Madavara, and Silk Institute will leave at 11:20 PM, while the final departure from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, is scheduled for 11:55 PM in all directions.
Commuters can access the metro using a variety of ticketing methods, including QR tickets, Smart Cards, National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), and tokens, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience during the extended service hours.
The extended metro services aim to accommodate the anticipated large crowds at the WPL 2025 matches in Bengaluru, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for women’s cricket in India. This initiative also supports the city’s push for public transport usage during major sporting events, helping to ease traffic congestion around the stadiums.
Bengaluru Metro consistently provides extended services for major cricket events, including IPL and WPL matches, held in the city known as India’s tech hub. On these occasions, many commuters prefer the metro over private vehicles to avoid heavy traffic, leading to a noticeable increase in ridership.
However, the recent fare hike by Namma Metro resulted in a decline in daily passenger numbers. In the first week following the price increase, over 6 lakh passengers opted out of using the metro due to the higher cost for regular commuters. Despite this dip, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) anticipates a spike in ridership during the upcoming match days.
