Disney cruise ship

Tokyo Disneyland’s operator, Oriental Land Company (OLC), has announced an exciting new collaboration with Japanese shipping giant NYK Line and its subsidiary, NYK Cruises. This partnership aims to bring a new Disney cruise ship to Japan, marking a major milestone in the nation’s tourism and entertainment sector. The collaboration will focus on the creation of cruise services based in Japan, scheduled for launch in 2028.

This agreement paves the way for a close working relationship between OLC, NYK Line, and NYK Cruises. The companies will work together on a range of activities, from consulting to cruise ship management. Their collective expertise will shape the operational strategies that will drive the development and success of Japan’s Disney cruise offerings.

The partnership is a significant step in expanding Disney’s global presence and enhancing the cruise experience in Japan. With OLC’s reputation for delivering magical experiences and NYK’s extensive maritime expertise, this collaboration promises to offer a unique and immersive cruise service for Disney fans around the world. The launch in 2028 will likely become a highlight for Disney lovers and cruise enthusiasts alike.

NYK Line, Japan’s largest shipping firm, manages a fleet of 824 vessels. This summer, the Asuka III cruise ship will join the Asuka II, which currently holds the title of Japan’s largest passenger ship.

OLC has secured a licensing deal with Disney for its cruise operations. The new 330 billion yen ($2 billion) ship will feature approximately 1,250 rooms and accommodate up to 4,000 passengers. It will operate out of Tokyo’s ports for both departures and arrivals.

Disney Cruise Line is undergoing a significant growth phase, with its current fleet of six ships set to expand to 13 by 2031.
