Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada are both pushing for a direct Emirates flight to Dubai, aiming to improve connectivity for travelers heading to Europe and the U.S.
A delegation from Emirates is currently in talks with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Vijayawada Airport Director Lakshmikant Reddy to assess the feasibility of launching a Dubai-Vijayawada route.
At present, Visakhapatnam offers direct flights to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok, while Vijayawada has had a direct Sharjah connection via Air India Express since October 2022. Airlines like Scoot and AirAsia operate international flights from Visakhapatnam International Airport.
Without a direct Dubai flight, passengers are forced to take longer routes with layovers in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Bangkok, Singapore, or Kuala Lumpur.
The Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation has already urged the government to introduce a direct Dubai flight, citing growing demand. With capital development in Amaravati underway, the TDP-led NDA coalition is prioritizing enhanced air connectivity for Vijayawada, both domestically and internationally.
Meanwhile, a world-class international airport is under construction at Bhogapuram, about 40 km from Visakhapatnam. Developed by the GMR Group, it is expected to be operational by June 2026. Following a recent review, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu emphasized the government’s commitment to improving regional connectivity, including the development of greenfield airports and expanding international flight options for Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati.
