In an exclusive interview, How Kim Lian, Group CEO of Tune Protect, highlights the Delay Lounge Pass as a game-changer, enhancing travel insurance with premium lounge access for seamless, comfortable journeys.

What inspired Tune Protect Group to introduce the Delay Lounge Pass for AirAsia Travel Insurance customers?

Tune Protect Group introduced the Delay Lounge Pass as part of its mission to redefine the travel insurance experience by integrating solutions that go beyond traditional insurance coverage. Recognising the inconvenience travellers face during flight delays, particularly during peak travel seasons, the Group sought to transform these inconveniences into opportunities for relaxation and comfort.

This initiative is closely aligned with Tune Protect’s strategic focus on becoming a key player in the travel ecosystem. By leveraging its extensive network of regional partners and understanding the needs of modern travellers, the Delay Lounge Pass embodies the Group’s vision of creating seamless travel experiences by offering value-added services. It is also in line to Tune Protect’s innovative approach to enhancing the customer journey, positioning the brand as a lifestyle-focused insurer offering more than just protection.

This innovation reflects Tune Protect’s dedication to providing travellers with convenience, comfort, and peace of mind, while reinforcing its ambition to establish itself as a key player within the regional travel ecosystem.

How does the Delay Lounge Pass enhance the travel experience for different types of travelers, such as families, business professionals, and solo adventurers?

For families, it provides a quiet space to manage children; business professionals can catch up on work in a conducive environment; and solo travellers can relax comfortably. This access transforms the experience of flight delays by catering to the diverse needs of all travellers.

    • Can you elaborate on the facilities offered in the 1,600+[1] airport lounges and travel experiences included in this benefit?

In partnership with Collinson International[2], the airport lounges and travel experiences accessible through the Delay Lounge Pass are designed to provide a convenient, quiet and comfortable place for travellers to relax in the event of a flight delay or cancellation.

Beyond airport lounges, travellers can also access a diverse range of experiences, including wellness facilities, sleeping pods and discounts at bars and restaurants, ensuring that travellers can relax in comfort while waiting for their flight.

    Key facilities and highlights include:

    • Relaxation and Ambience: Airport lounges such as Kyra Lounge at the Hong Kong International Airport offer travellers quiet spaces to unwind. Its comfortable seating, panoramic views, and relaxation zones enable guests to escape the hustle and bustle of a busy international airport.
    • Business Amenities: Travellers working on the go can enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi, charging stations, and fully equipped ergonomic workstations at airport lounges such as the Asiana Business Lounges at Incheon International Airport.
    • Culinary Experiences: Travellers can enjoy a wide array of dining options, including local delicacies, international cuisines, and also plant-based meals. For instance, Capsule Transit MAX at Kuala Lumpur International Airport offers a premium eco-friendly dining experience, while Pope Joan at Melbourne Airport brings one of the city’s favourite cafe to the airport.
    • Wellness Facilities: Many of the airport lounges offer shower facilities for travellers looking to freshen up before their next flight. Additionally, Tune Protect has introduced TravelFlex Lite, a flexible cancellation benefit due to unforeseen circumstances, reimbursing flight ticket costs up to RM500 if customers are unable to travel. These combined benefits provide comprehensive coverage, enhancing the overall travel experience.

Currently, the Delay Lounge Pass is available for flights departing from or arriving in Malaysia and Thailand. Moving forward, Tune Protect is actively exploring opportunities to extend this benefit to other Southeast Asian markets, with plans to roll it out in this region by mid-year. This aligns with the Group’s commitment to continuously enhancing travel experiences and meeting the needs of a growing regional customer base.

What has been the initial response from AirAsia passengers, and can you share any early success stories or feedback?

Since the Delay Lounge Pass was recently launched, it is still too early to draw definitive conclusions from customer feedback and success stories. Tune Protect will continue to monitor customer feedback to further enhance its offerings. How does this initiative contribute to Tune Protect’s overall vision for enhancing the travel insurance industry?

The Delay Lounge Pass reflects Tune Protect’s commitment to elevating customers’ travel experiences by going beyond conventional insurance benefits. By offering additional benefits like airport lounge access, Tune Protect aims to become a relevant player within the travel ecosystem in the region, setting new standards in the travel insurance industry. Leveraging its robust technology capabilities, Tune Protect will be able to expedite collaboration with key travel partners that will support the offering of various travel value-added services in the market.
