Alstom, a pioneer in sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions, has strengthened its commitment to education by announcing a partnership with the Fondation pour les élèves de Montréal (Foundation for Montreal Students). Through the Alstom Foundation, the company is providing crucial funding to support Code MTL, an initiative that enhances digital skills and social growth among students in Montreal’s public school system.

This financial support will allow Code MTL to expand its reach, benefiting students aged 5 to 14 and ensuring broader accessibility during the 2024-2025 academic term. By fostering digital literacy, this contribution aligns with Alstom’s mission to inspire future innovators and strengthen STEM education.

“The Code MTL program aligns perfectly with the mission of the Alstom Foundation. By teaching young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the basics of programming and problem solving, the program enriches their learning experience and opens up new perspectives for the future. The Alstom foundation is proud to support the Foundation for Montreal Students in creating innovative and transformative educational environments,” said Olivier Marcil, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, Alstom Canada.

Since its establishment in 1999, the Foundation for Montreal Students has been dedicated to reducing educational inequalities. Code MTL plays a vital role in narrowing the digital skills gap, especially in schools where 75% of students come from economically challenged backgrounds. The initiative provides all students, including newcomers acquiring French language skills, with hands-on technological training, promoting inclusivity and equitable learning opportunities.

Offering interactive workshops tailored to different age groups, Code MTL integrates coding, robotics, and creative problem-solving into the curriculum. Students develop computational thinking through engaging activities that encompass mathematics, storytelling, and logical reasoning. Since its launch in 2017, the program has introduced programming concepts to nearly 20,000 young learners across Montreal, with over 3,000 students participating each year.

“We thank the Alstom Foundation for its generous support, which will introduce thousands of young Montrealers to digital education, while developing skills such as logical reasoning and creative thinking,” said Betty Esperanza, General Director of the Foundation for Montreal Students.

By supporting Code MTL, Alstom continues to empower young minds with the digital competencies needed to excel in an increasingly technology-driven world, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and educational innovation.
