Vossloh has been awarded a €30 million contract by PORR to supply advanced rail fastening systems for the High Speed 2 (HS2) project, the UK’s transformative high-speed rail network connecting London and Birmingham. Scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2027, these systems will enhance track stability and durability, aligning with HS2’s goals of creating a greener, low-carbon transportation network. With HS2 Ltd, the project’s developer and future operator, overseeing the initiative, Vossloh’s innovative solutions—designed to minimize noise and vibration—will play a crucial role in modernizing the UK’s rail infrastructure and setting new standards for sustainable, high-speed travel.
“With our technically high-quality system solution, we ensure that the high requirements for safety, reliability and durability are met on the demanding high-speed line,” explains Oliver Schuster, CEO of Vossloh AG. “We are delighted that the customer is relying on our many years of expertise and that we are making an important contribution to the expansion of sustainable transport infrastructure in the UK.”
HS2 stands as one of Europe’s most ambitious infrastructure projects and will become the UK’s second high-speed rail line, following High Speed 1 (HS1), which connects London to the Channel Tunnel. Once operational, the line will support speeds of up to 360 km/h, significantly reducing travel time between London and Birmingham from 82 minutes to just 45 minutes. Additionally, the project will free up capacity on the existing mainline, enabling more freight and local passenger services.
Expected to be completed by 2033, HS2 represents a pivotal step in modernizing Britain’s transport infrastructure. Beyond enhancing connectivity, the project is set to deliver substantial economic and social benefits, supporting regional growth, improving accessibility, and driving sustainable development across the country.
