Qantas has formed a groundbreaking partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) to enhance water safety awareness ahead of the summer season and help the organization reach its goal of zero preventable deaths in Australian waters.
This new four-year collaboration brings together two iconic Australian brands that share a strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of both Australians and visitors. With a history spanning over a century, both Qantas and SLSA are trusted names when it comes to safety, whether in the sky or on the ground.
A key initiative of the partnership is the launch of the Beach Passport, an online training tool developed by SLSA with support from Qantas. Set to launch just in time for the summer holidays, the Beach Passport will provide essential water safety knowledge to the public. The free, 10-minute course will be available to all Australians and visitors.
To incentivize participation, Qantas will offer 150 Qantas Points to everyone who completes the Beach Passport course. Additionally, participants will be entered into a prize draw to win 1 million Qantas Points.
The partnership coincides with the launch of SLSA’s national ‘Stop, Look, Stay Alive’ campaign for the 2024/25 summer season, further amplifying efforts to keep Australians safe on the water.
Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said the partnership unites two Australian organisations that share safety as core to their identity.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with Surf Life Saving Australia, an organisation that has been safeguarding our beaches for over a century.”
“Safety is fundamental to us as the national carrier, and this partnership underscores our dedication to upholding the highest safety standards for Australians and visitors, whether on the ground or in the air. Our goal is that Beach Passport becomes a regular tool for all beachgoers for years to come.”
Surf Life Saving Australia CEO Adam Weir expressed the importance of educating Australians on water safety ahead of summer.
“Surf Life Saving Australia exists to save lives, create great Australians and build better communities and we cannot do this without the support of likeminded organisations.”
“There is a need for greater community education around hazard identification and water safety particularly in the lead up to summer and we’re thrilled we can start to close this gap through our new partnership with Qantas and the new Beach Passport.”
Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) boasts over 300 clubs across the country, and with Qantas’ ongoing support, this network is set to receive even greater backing. This partnership builds on more than seven years of collaboration between the two organizations, particularly through Qantas’ ‘Side-by-Side’ employee grants program.
Each year, the Side-by-Side program donates up to $250,000 to causes that resonate with Qantas employees. SLSA has consistently been one of the most nominated organizations for these grants, supported by Qantas’ 27,000-strong workforce.
