Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority appoints Rachel Johnson as Director of Business Diversity, driving innovative strategies for equity and inclusion at Tennessee airports.

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA), responsible for managing Nashville International Airport (BNA) and John C. Tune Airport (JWN), has announced the appointment of Rachel Johnson as Director of Business Diversity Development.

A Memphis native, Johnson brings nearly ten years of expertise in procurement and business diversity to her new role. Prior to joining MNAA over a year ago, she spearheaded Business Diversity initiatives at WeGo Public Transit, showcasing her commitment to fostering inclusivity and equity.

In her expanded role, Johnson will oversee MNAA’s initiatives to enhance opportunities for businesses owned by diverse entrepreneurs to engage in airport contracts and concessions. She will collaborate with airport staff, contractors, and concessionaires to develop and implement strategies aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion across the airport’s operations and supply chain.

BNA plays a pivotal role in supporting the economic growth and vitality of Middle Tennessee. As a gateway to Music City, the airport contributed over $9.9 billion in total economic impact in 2019, according to a State of Tennessee report. This includes supporting more than 76,000 regional jobs and generating over $443 million in federal, state, and local taxes, all without relying on local tax funding.

John C. Tune Airport (JWN), situated just eight miles from downtown Nashville, serves as Tennessee’s busiest general aviation airport. Catering to regional, corporate, and private aircraft, JWN also acts as a relief airport for BNA. It has an economic impact of $92 million and operates without local tax contributions, further demonstrating its value to the community. Managed by MNAA, JWN continues to support the aviation needs of the region effectively.
