Inner Mongolia

On November 7, the 2024-2025 winter tourism season commenced in Inner Mongolia with the launch of the “Song Tour of Inner Mongolia – Joyful Ice and Snow Season” in the city of Yakeshi. This event, coordinated by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region’s Department of Culture and Tourism, signifies the start of a magical winter period. As the seasons shift, the region dresses in a silvery winter attire, where delicate snowflakes garnish everything from yurt skylights to the eyelashes of horses, setting the stage for enchanting winter escapades.

The season’s kickoff in Inner Mongolia unveils a palette of vibrant activities and thoughtful amenities over the coming five months, segmented into three distinct phases.

The inaugural phase encompasses adventures in Hulunbuir, Xing’an League, and Ulanqab City. Starting November 20, the second phase of the event will introduce a series of festive activities in Hohhot, Chifeng, Baotou, and Ordos. The concluding phase, starting December 1, will light up Tongliao, Xilingol League, Bayannur, Wuhai, and Alxa League with winter delights.

In Hulunbuir, visitors can embark on the “Wilderness Crossing of Phoenix Mountain” or partake in the “Ice and Snow Journey – Phoenix Adventure”. Engagements like the “Aoluguya Migration” showcase reindeer herding, while those seeking tranquility can retreat to snug forest huts amidst snowy woods.

Xing’an League is alive with daily Ulan Muqir performances, vibrant ice and snow festivals, and welcoming hot springs. Highlights include train concerts and frosty river cruises that contrast starkly with warm hot springs dips—a thrilling 70-degree temperature swing.

Ulanqab City invites guests to its “An Invitation to Ice and Snow from Inner Mongolia – To the West for Skiing” extravaganza. With an event lineup stretching over 100 days, the city promises a mix of skiing excitement and cultural experiences.

Hohhot, the “Green City,” blends traditional folk customs with contemporary entertainment in its winter festival, while Chifeng offers unique tourism routes, including skiing and fruit picking adventures. Baotou and Ordos weave local culture into their winter programs with activities like ice drifting and vibrant nightlife options, respectively.

As December rolls in, Inner Mongolia’s cities and towns, including Tongliao and Xilingol, will roll out their own frosty festivities, presenting the region’s varied winter landscapes.

This winter, Inner Mongolia showcases 25 unique winter tourism trails, including the picturesque “The Most Beautiful of 331” highway and the exhilarating “Ice and Snow Crossing”. The region’s winter charm extends from the expansive Hulunbuir Grassland to the snowy peaks of the Great Khingan Forest, offering peaceful snowfall sounds and serene encounters with nature.

Complementing the scenic winter is the “Inner Mongolia Song Tour”, a musical journey that intertwines local tunes with the frosty landscape, highlighted by competitions and tours that enrich the experience of Inner Mongolia’s winter tourism tapestry.
