Istanbul Airport retained its title as Europe’s busiest airport from November 4 to 10, averaging 1,359 daily flights, outpacing London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and other airports.
With a 3% increase from the previous week (according to Eurocontrol) this marks yet another achievement for Türkiye’s largest airport as it solidifies its dominance in European aviation.
London Heathrow Airport followed in second place with an unchanged average of 1,295 daily flights, while Amsterdam Airport Schiphol secured third with 1,282 daily flights, down 2% from the previous week.
Paris Charles de Gaulle ranked fourth, registering a 5% decline to 1,212 daily flights, and Frankfurt Airport maintained fifth with 1,170 daily flights.
Madrid Barajas Airport reported 1,129 daily flights, while Barcelona saw a 6% drop to 862 daily flights.
Munich and Rome Fiumicino airports also recorded decreases, with 845 and 790 average daily flights, respectively.
Zurich Airport was the only exception among lower-ranked hubs, posting a 1% increase with 670 daily flights.
Notably, most of Europe’s top 10 airports recorded higher traffic compared to the same week last year, with the exception of Frankfurt.
Among airlines, Ryanair remained the busiest carrier, averaging 2,440 daily flights, despite an 18% drop due to the transition to winter schedules.
Turkish Airlines saw a 3% rise, reaching 1,368 daily flights, securing the second spot and marking the only increase among Europe’s top carriers. EasyJet ranked third with 1,267 flights, a steep 22% decline.
Overall, the top 10 airline operators reported an 8.7% drop in flight numbers week-on-week, reflecting seasonal adjustments.
However, Istanbul Airport’s growth and Turkish Airlines’ resilience highlight the enduring strength of Türkiye’s aviation sector.
