The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has introduced expanded roles for two senior team members while expressing gratitude to a departing leader.

Jo Damato, CAM, has taken on the role of senior vice president of events and professional engagement, and Andrew Broom has been appointed chief revenue officer. These leadership updates follow Laurie Lutz’s planned departure this month, concluding her tenure as senior vice president of events.

“Jo and Andrew are respected and proven leaders with deep experience at NBAA and in the industry,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are pleased that they are taking on new responsibilities in support of NBAA’s mission to foster the growth of business aviation in the United States and around the world.”

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has announced expanded roles for two senior leaders as part of its ongoing commitment to advancing its strategic vision. Jo Damato, CAM, and Andrew Broom have assumed enhanced responsibilities, while NBAA acknowledges the contributions of Laurie Lutz, who recently concluded her tenure with the association.

Jo Damato’s Expanded Leadership

Jo Damato, previously NBAA’s senior vice president of education, training, and workforce development, now also oversees the strategic direction of the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), conferences, and forums. Her role includes ensuring the excellence and financial success of these signature events while maintaining her leadership of NBAA’s professional development activities. This portfolio encompasses the Certified Aviation Manager program, sustainability accreditation, scholarships, certificate programs, and more.

Damato’s career with NBAA began in 2001, managing Air Traffic Services at the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center. She transitioned in 2007 to focus on professional development roles, leveraging her expertise to shape NBAA’s educational and workforce initiatives. Her extensive aviation background includes scheduling and pilot training roles with Executive Jet Management at Cincinnati’s Lunken Airport (LUK).

Damato is deeply engaged in the aviation community, serving on the Department of Transportation’s Youth Access to American Jobs in Aviation Task Force and actively participating in Women in Aviation, International, and Women in Corporate Aviation. She co-founded the Sky Hope Network, which later merged with Patient Air Lift Services. A certified flight instructor with commercial and instrument ratings, Damato holds degrees in aviation management and aeronautical science from the Florida Institute of Technology and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Andrew Broom’s Strategic Vision

In his expanded role as NBAA’s chief revenue officer, Andrew Broom will lead event exhibit sales while continuing to oversee membership, marketing, and sponsorships. Broom is tasked with driving innovative strategies to enhance the NBAA brand, expand its member base, and generate revenue through current and future initiatives. This includes forging strategic alliances and introducing fresh perspectives to enhance NBAA’s events, programs, and services.

Since joining NBAA in 2021 as senior vice president of strategy, marketing, and innovation, Broom has demonstrated a strong track record of leadership. His prior roles include CEO of the Citation Jet Pilots Association, leading global marketing efforts for Honda Aircraft Company, and serving as vice president of communications at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He has also held positions with Hawker Beechcraft, Eclipse Aviation, and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.

Broom holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical science and an MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is also a certified flight instructor with instrument instructor qualifications.

Recognizing Laurie Lutz

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen expressed appreciation for Laurie Lutz’s impactful contributions during her tenure as senior vice president of events. Lutz played a pivotal role in managing NBAA’s event portfolio, culminating in the successful execution of this year’s NBAA-BACE. Her leadership leaves a lasting legacy as she moves on to new opportunities.

With these leadership updates, NBAA reinforces its commitment to delivering exceptional value to its members and advancing the business aviation community.

“The 2024 edition of our convention was marked by memorable firsts, headline-driving announcements and inspiring speakers, reflecting Laurie’s trademark focus on delivering excellence,” Bolen said. “We thank Laurie for her outstanding service to the association and industry, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors.”
