Yesterday, the Emirates NBA Cup trophy arrived in New York, marking a significant moment with the launch of the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup. The trophy’s arrival from Dubai, where it was transported in Emirates’ Airbus A380 featuring a new NBA-themed livery, underscores the airline’s role as the Official Global Airline Partner and the first-ever title sponsor of the Emirates NBA Cup.
The tournament kicked off on November 12 and will wrap up with the Championship game on December 17 in Las Vegas. Last month, Emirates unveiled the A380’s stunning new look, sporting a dynamic blue and red design that celebrates this unique partnership.
NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy was on hand to escort the trophy from Dubai to New York. Upon its arrival, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Emirates Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for the West, Thierry Aucoc, officially welcomed the trophy, signaling the tournament’s commencement.
A High-Flying Basketball Experience
The flight offered passengers a unique basketball experience with cabin interiors decked out in NBA decor and a menu featuring basketball-themed dishes served in NBA-branded packaging. The in-flight entertainment system, ice, provided passengers with a selection of classic NBA games and live broadcasts of the cup matches.
First and Business class passengers enjoyed a chance to mingle with Worthy in the onboard lounge, savoring game day snacks like sliders, pizzas, and pretzels alongside gourmet treats such as bistro bites and NBA-themed desserts.
Passengers boarding Emirates Flight EK201 were treated to a special announcement from Worthy, enhancing the excitement of this one-of-a-kind journey. They also received NBA-themed keepsakes, including limited edition model aircraft in the new NBA livery and various branded items like luggage tags and photo frames.
Celebratory Activities and Exclusive Merchandise
Throughout the tournament, until December 17, Emirates flights to and from 13 locations in the U.S. and Canada will feature NBA-inspired products and services. This includes custom-designed headrests and coasters, and a special menu available in all classes. Additionally, passengers can listen to playlists of NBA legends and podcasts with NBA Deputy Commissioner and COO Mark Tatum.
In the lead-up to the tournament, from now until November 22, travelers can also enjoy NBA-themed dining in Emirates’ lounges in Dubai, New York JFK, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston.
For fans looking to own a piece of the NBA, limited edition replica aircraft models sporting the new livery are available, along with other merchandise at the Emirates Official Store.
The Emirates NBA Cup action continues with multiple group stage games, including exciting matchups like the San Antonio Spurs versus the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies against the Golden State Warriors, all broadcasted live on ESPN.
