Alaska Airlines Completes Acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, Ushering in a New Era of Air Travel

Alaska Air Group, Inc. has finalized its acquisition of Hawaiian Holdings, Inc., marking a transformative partnership poised to reshape the aviation landscape. This merger enhances access to both domestic and international destinations through the expansive oneworld Alliance and a vast network of global partners, offering travelers a superior experience under two strong brands with deep community roots.

As the two airlines work towards integrating their operations under a single FAA operating certificate, they will continue to function separately for now, maintaining distinct websites, reservation systems, and loyalty programs. Travelers can book with confidence, knowing their existing plans will be honored without interruption.

Enhanced Network and Fleet Expansion

The combined airline group now operates nearly 1,500 daily flights to 141 destinations, including 29 international markets across the Americas, Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific. With hubs in Seattle, Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, San Diego, and Anchorage, Honolulu will become the second-largest hub after Seattle.

The fleet now includes 350 aircraft, featuring a mix of Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer models, and employs over 33,000 people across North America, Asia, and the Pacific.

Benefits for Travelers and Communities

In the coming weeks, travelers will enjoy the ability to transfer miles between Alaska’s Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles accounts, buy tickets for both airlines on either website, and benefit from a new travel program, Huaka‘i by Hawaiian, tailored exclusively for Hawai‘i residents. This program offers unique discounts, including 10% off interisland flights and other exclusive deals for members.

Looking ahead, a unified loyalty program is expected to launch by mid-2025, merging the best features of Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles, and offering elite status reciprocity between the two airlines. Hawaiian Airlines will continue to operate under its iconic brand, known for exceptional service and deep ties to the local community.

Commitment to Employees and Communities

Alaska Airlines is committed to preserving and expanding union-represented jobs in Hawai‘i and supporting career development through enhanced workforce initiatives. Honolulu will serve as a major hub and regional headquarters, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to the community.

This partnership strengthens Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines’ longstanding dedication to supporting local communities and promoting regenerative tourism and Hawaiian culture. The combined airline will build on existing programs to ensure a vibrant future for Hawai‘i.
